Outreach and Connection

At the root of everything we do is connection.

For those using IV drugs or other substances, connecting to both peers and to resources becomes a challenge that can often isolate individuals who need support. For many, it has been a long time since someone met them where they were at and offered them their service, and we seek to do just that. With unwavering connection to our community, we can reach the greatest need base and establish relationships that keep IV drug users healthy and safe.

When we can connect those suffering as a result of addiction to the help they need in any form, they are better equipped to make decision for themselves as to how to lead a healthier life. Whether it be companionship that does not judge them for their needs, or a way out of a lifestyle that no longer serves them, people suffering as a result of IV drug use can find more of what they need from those working with syringe exchange programs than almost anywhere else.

We operate both from 3 fixed sites at Anuvia Prevention & Recovery, Hope Chapel, and Carolinas CARE Partnership, and mobile outreach. Our main goal is to reach those needing support where they are. Travel and online research are not always possible for those who most need resources, so we make it as simple as possible to find our services from within recovery centers and near the homes or shelters they live in.

Developing these relationships within our community creates an empowering environment in which a person can make the best choices for them. We seek not to convince anyone of the best course of action, but to reach out our hand and provide any resources they need, from social service information to clean needles and naloxone (Narcan).

“I didn’t set out for this, and I wouldn’t wish it on anybody. The fact that we harm people even more when they’re in these vulnerable places and in these places where they desperately need love and they desperately need human compassion and empathy is unforgivable.” -Louise, an advocate for NC Harm Reduction Coalition
