Improving Access to Resources

Queen City Needle Exchange (QCNE) is so much more than a sterile syringe exchange. We provide life-saving resources to anyone who seeks it, free of cost and conditions.

Our goal is to provide free testing for HIV and viral Hepatitis. QCNE provides resources for treatment options and assistance for these conditions when needed.

We offer people who use drugs with test strips for fentanyl analogues. This includes education and training on how to use test strips so that people can make informed decisions on safer drug use. In addition to test strips and injection supplies, we provide wound care and information on how attend to your body and veins. This helps to prevent overdose, the spread of infectious disease which can lead to endocarditis and other fatal conditions, and promotes individual health.

Offering these resources is legally protected in North Carolina, and it is now against the law to arrest, prosecute, or charge anyone for the possession of injection supplies received from a syringe access program, even those with residual amounts of controlled substances. This law seeks to encourage safe distribution of clean needles and safe disposal of needles that may otherwise create further risks with potential reuse and sharing.

In providing all of the above and more, we foster a safe and compassionate environment for people who use drugs and other directly impacted people. Through these engaging services with individuals, community health as a whole is improved.

Should someone seeking our services desire treatment options or other health & wellness needs, we are able to provide referrals and literature that guide them towards programs and tools that work best for them.
